Welcome!
Our ensembles will present various musical works that symbolically represent feelings of joy, love and hope through celestial imagery of skies, stars, and rainbows.
After the 8th Grade Instrumental Music class journeys “Over the Hills and Far Away” followed by “Saints Go Marching In”, 8th Grade Chorus will take us to “paradise up above” with the classic pop song “Sh’Boom”. The Flintridge Singers will then follow with a diverse set of works, including an ancient Jewish hymn, a mid-century Christmas carol, Jacob Carver’s “Ad Astra” (“To the Sky”), and the pop-country track “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves. The Community Chorus will join the 8th Grade Chorus and Flintridge Singers for our final two numbers: “Betelehemu”, a Nigerian Christmas carol, and “Walk in Jerusalem,” a traditional African-American spiritual. Abstracted from their respective religious and cultural contexts, both pieces look toward their own metaphorical rainbows — Bethlehem and Jerusalem — as symbolic sites of refuge and hope.
Orchestra Class and Community Orchestra will perform classics by J.S. Bach and Gabriel Faure as well as medleys by Alan Menken from the film "Enchanted" and John Williams from "Harry Potter". To end the concert, our combined Choirs will return to the stage to perform Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr. Blue Sky” and “The Rainbow Connection” from the Muppet Movie."
